Mt. Hinamori- 1344m (4406 ft)

Mt. Hinamori lies on the eastern side of the Kirishima mountain range within Miyasaki prefecture.  This mountain can not be seen from Kirishima but the mountain is covered with thick forestry.  From long ago Mt. Hinamori was known for its beauty and was named, gMasaki-no-meizanh, and is mentioned in one of Japanfs most famous  book called Nihon Shoki, In the book it is said that the former emperor went to Mt. Hinamori when Chikuzen (former name of Kyushu) came under his control.


Mt. Iou- 1310m (4295 ft)

Mt. Iou is located on the western side of Mt. Karakuni within the Ebino tablelands.  It is a 50m (163 ft) high plateau, with half of the face of the covered with yellow sulfur flowers.  Around this area there are hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide gases fuming from the ground.  Due to the abundance of sulfur, there was a large sulfur mining company, Sai-no-kawara, near this mountian.  With many rock stacks surrounding the river near the mountain, gives an image of the Buddhist Sanzu River.


Mt. Eboshi- 987.9m (3239 ft)

Mt. Eboshi can be seen on the right side of route 223 from Kirishima-Jingu to Makizono Town.  Route 223 runs to the halfway point of this mountain.  This mountain was named Eboshi because the shape of the mountain looks like a Shinto priestfs hat (eboshi).  Once at the top, the crater is hard to see, but there remain traces of hot spring water that once boiled at the pit of the crater.
