Every year many tourists visit Tuolumne County, with the grandly
beautiful Yosemite National Park and the Stanislaus National
Forest, as well as its well-preserved Gold rush history.
The center of Tuolumne County is Sonora City, with its police
and fire, high school and college, and other public facilities.
The population of about 5000 swells to 20000 during the day,
when tourists and shoppers flow into the city. Lumber and
mining industries are still flourishing, providing a source
of raw materials for California and the rest of the world.
Also, the stunning nature and old downtown have served as
the backdrop for many films and commercials. Among these,
the famous 'Little House on the Prairie' was filmed nearby,
and people still make trips to see the places it was filmed.
