Between 1688 to 1709, during the Genron Period,
there was a man named Shimadaminbu Saemon
who lived in Haruyama-no-Kami of Shimazuhan.
During that time, there were rice paddies
around the Shigehisa-Matsunaga area, but
the farmers were still living a tough life.
Shimadaminbu noticed that Haruyama Ranch held an area of 500ha.
He asked the owner many times to move its location but was
turn down everytime.
Then, Shimadaminbo proposed a idea to draw
water from the Haruyama Fields for the rice
paddies. He encouraged the workers to start
construction on dikes and tunnels. At the
same time he encouraged the construction
of a route for fishes from the Koshikano
Falls to the Kirishima river.
But this event reached the feudal lord and the construction
was halted. Shimadaminbu did not receive any punishment, and
he spent the rest of his life happily.
The traces of the water channels and the
tunnels can be slightly seen within the mountain
above the Kirishima gas station.
