This stone monument was built in 1915 by
the town's people. It lies next to Kirishima
Junior High School.
On December 1234, the volcanic eruption of
the Kirishima mountain destroyed the shrine
that lies in Setaogoe. The Masse Shrine was
a temporary shrine until a new one was built.
For 250 years this temporary shrine was used.
But in 1484, during the Emperor Gotsuchimikado
reign, the priest Kenkei was ordered by Shimazutadamasa
to rebuild the Masse Shrine and install a
new sacred symbol of the deity.
The the shrine was rebuilt in 1911. This shrine honors the
Taguchi god, Tenshi. |
