During the period when the gods descended
to earth, they brought a horse, descendent
of Amebuchinokoma, with them. Since there
were plenty of healthy horses in the area,
they built a god ranch called Kirishima-yamakouya
no Kougen. The chilly weather of the area
was bad for the growth of the horses, so
they moved the ranch to Haruyama.
Another ranch, Sano Ranch, was burnt down
by Kirishima mountian's volcanic eruption
during the Tenreki period. The horses that
survived this eruption escaped to Taguchi-no-Massegawara and Kawakita Mazehai.
A man named Babayuusyouin
gathered the horses
and led them to his field. Soon after Babayuusyouin gathered the horses
at Mazehai. He offered
a flower to the guardian, Omaki,
and brought the horses
back to Haruyamano.
In 1703, the ranch was moved to Tousyou
because while the ranch was at Haruyamano the horses were
attacked by wolves. Legend has it that a farmer named Seizou
of Ounejime spent a week fighting off the wolves.
