/The Dance of the Rice Paddy God

On April 1, 1978 this was named as a cultural asset of the town, but soon on it was named as a cultural asset of the Prefecture,March 15, 1991.
The Dance of the Rice Paddle God occurs on February 4 of the Lunar calendar. This dance is to pray to the gods for a good harvest. In olden days, the Kodama and Hashimoto family performed this dance. This dance has been performed for 300 years.
Every year at 10am on February 4th of the lunar calendar, the performace begins with the beating of the taiko drum and the crying of cows. At the end, the reenactment of the god planting the seeds is done.




/The Stick Dance

There are many different accounts of the origin of this dance.

A. This dance was performed when the Satsuma clan wanted to boost morale.

B. Satsuma clan's sword fighting technique.

C. A copy of Ise Jingu's harvest dance.

As you can tell, there are many different accounts of the origin of this dance.

From long ago this dance has been performed during the harvesting festival. Currently, this dance has been passed down through the generations at four villages, Taguchi, Sanada, Hashita, and Katsurauchi.
